The Smoke Sense mobile app, developed by the US Environmental Protection Agency, is a citizen science study aimed at understanding the impacts of wildfire smoke exposure on health. This app allows users to learn about wildland fires and the associated health risks in their area. Citizen scientists can report their health symptoms and indicate the actions they are willing to take to improve their health or reduce their exposure to smoke. Incentives in the form of badges are provided to users who participate each week.

The data collected through Smoke Sense will help EPA researchers and communities gain insights into how smoke affects our health and productivity. This information will be used to develop effective health risk communication methods during smoke days.
